Delux Z wins CCI 3* and IDHSNA Award at Rebecca Farm

On a gorgeous day in Big Sky country, Kurt Martin and Delux Z won the $1,200 IDHSNA award for highest placed Irish Draught Sport Horse at The Event at Rebecca Farm (Kalispell, Montana) by winning the CCI3* itself. Delux Z (by Lux Z and out of a Master Imp/Clover Hill mare) went into the stadium round in 2nd place after a clear round and no time faults on Olympian Ian Starks’s bold International-level CCI 3* cross country course. His second clear round put the pressure on first placed horse, The Apprentice ridden by Buck Davidson, but his double clear won the day, and he finished on his dressage score of 47.0

Northwest Region members Lucy Stevenson (and daughters Katie and Anna) and Liz McFarland along with text support from Jess Walker, hunted down potential qualifying horses for the award on Saturday, but by mid-day realized it was clear, a CCI3* award would be made. Liz McFarland presented the award for the Society in center ring along with the Broussard family, owners of Rebecca Farm. During the awards presentation, Kurt Martin shared his delight at having won and thanked the Society for their recognition and support (as did his parents, who were cheering from the sidelines).

Northwest Region members chose to focus on fund raising for an ambitious award. The decision allowed for significantly more visibility and interest, as there were nearly 600 competitors and upwards of 20,000 attending the Event. The Northwest Region plans to continue the Society's presence at The Event at Rebecca Farm, and in doing so, raise interest in and recognition of Irish Sport Horses through their achievement.

It seemed almost too much to ask that an Irish Draught Sport Horse win the inaugural year of the CCI 3* and the inaugural year of the new award, but win he did!
